Opportunity at EcoDharma in Spain

Maitrisara writes with news of an opportunity for anyone over50 looking for a stay in the Pyrenees this autumn. She says -

“Grant funding enables us to offer 6 expenses paid places on a volunteering project at the EcoDharma centre between 1 and 2 months in September and October 2010. (www.ecodharma.com)

"EcoDharma is a Buddhist based community living in a remote valley in the Catalan Pyrenees. The wild beauty is incredible as are the ideas talked about over supper! The influences on the centre’s philosophy include radical ecology, The Work that Reconnects, engaged Buddhism, systems theory and holistic experiential learning.

“You need to be over 50 (yes we know that’s a bit strange but that is what the funding is for!) and reasonably fit. Living as part of the community, you will be involved in the garden and building projects. If you know a bit about permaculture, building or capentry, food preserving - this might particularly suit you. Get in touch with Maitrisara - maitrisara@tiscali.co.uk if you want to know more about it and are interested.

“Please pass on to anyone you think would be interested (in the right age bracket!!)

With warm wishes
Maitrisara

New Buddhafield Project

Mumukshu writes from Buddhafield, in Devon UK, with new of a new Buddhafield project in the West Country.  She says -

"Is there anyone out there interested in talking to me, Mumukshu, about starting a new right livelihood venture in Devon?

"We are getting very enthusiastic about the idea of opening an organic vegan/vegetarian cafe, combined with a meditation/yoga/meeting space, in our local town. It would be an interface between the local community and our local buddhafield projects, such as home-grown organic produce, the tree nursery, herbal remedies. There are keen volunteers around, supported core team members and possibly others available full time all very interested in getting involved.

"However we need someone with experience, looking for something to get their teeth into and help get it off the ground. Ideally we would like a Dharmacharini, and it need not necessarily be for ever! Please call me on 07775694619 or 01363 772939 to discuss - or email mumukshu@buddhafield.com.

The LBC at 30: looking for Men and Women of Vision

The LBC's 'Breathing Space' project is under way!'The London Buddhist Centre is the FWBO's largest and most successful Buddhist Centre. It is thirty in November and is currently in the middle of the most exciting phase since its inception. We are improving all six floors of the Centre in a building project costing over £1.5m so that we can reach out to even more people.

We are:

- creating Breathing Space, a 'mindfulness for health' centre
- creating an access from Roman Road - making the centre's work much more visible
- building a new glass-atrium entrance, thereby enlarging our reception and bookshop
- making the centre much more accessible for people with disabilities
- completely refurbishing the community on the top three floors
- providing central heating to both communities above the LBC for the first time.

The new office for the LBC team has recently opened - alongside 'The Sangharakshita Study Room' - providing a beautiful and bright new environment in what was Bhante's flat.

We are looking for men and women of vision and commitment to join us.

Do you want to:

- play your part in an enthusiastic team of Order Members and Mitras trying to realise Bhante's vision?

- teach meditation and Dharma, or learn how to teach?

- lead or support retreats at Vajrasana, our retreat centre?

- learn to teach Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy or other 'mindfulness for health' initiatives.

- help to manage and expand Breathing Space, which is attracting significant funding and media interest (Guardian, The Times, The FT, The BBC, CNN)?

- actively go out to 'hard to reach' groups and help them benefit from the Dharma?

- help run the expanded LBC bookshop?

- work in the women's team at the Wild Cherry restaurant or take part in one of our other businesses, which we are also hoping to expand and revitalise?

- develop new projects and initiatives for Dharma work?

We have places for men on the Centre Team and for men and women in our businesses. We believe that we have a precious opportunity for the LBC to expand and to become a much greater force for good. We need your energy to help make it happen.

Contact us -

Maitreyaraja (020 8709 9984)

or Vidydaka (020 8709 9983) by 30 June.
